@Carl, the chubby ol' Zoom H2 definitely fits! It's just a bit small in height for such a tall bag, and its girth may restrict the two inner pockets of the 7x5x2. Maxpedition makes both smaller-height bags, as well as a deeper 7x5x4 that's otherwise identical.

Would you recommend the Maxpedition 7x5x2 pouch for a Zoom H2 recorder? I like the looks of it, but 2" thick doesn't seem like quite enough to allow for the H2's somewhat bulky build...

Great blog, btw. Really looking forward to future posts!

Great site! I've always loved military bags for gear, but have never got anything as heavy duty as mentioned here. For someone like me who uses just hand held recorders I would recommend this bag,

http://www.armynavydeals.com/asp/products_details.asp?SKU=FX4165&catid=1128&ItemName=Canvas Deluxe Excursion Organizer- Olive Drab

It holds my tascam dr-1, a multi-speed cassette recorder I like to use some times, chords, ear buds, small notebook, contact mic, etc. It has small zippered pockets inside great for SD cards and flash drives. The front pocket is great for a cell phone or micro-cassette recorder as well!

Colin, those are great suggestions! Talk about bombproof! Thanks for the kudos but thanks even more to adding to the list of great solutions to protect recordists' investments.

Great article Nathan! The Sat Com bag for the windshield is awesome! That's exactly what I've been looking for. It might also be worth mentioning the Alfa Case mic tube that can keep your mic safe and sound as well as the Petrol PBP-1 boom pole case. Both useful bits of kit when you're out and about...
